Our story: Built on experience and dedication

Simmark Construction was founded with a simple goal: to deliver reliable, high-quality construction solutions backed by real industry experience. Our company brings together strong practical knowledge and project delivery capability. Co-founder Lyle Marks has over 40 years of hands-on experience in the construction industry, working across light residential projects through to large-scale civil works. His expertise spans civil engineering, structural construction, and building, giving Simmark the ability to manage projects from the ground up.

Through years of working in the field, Lyle developed a reputation for practical problem-solving, quality workmanship, and delivering projects safely and efficiently. Simmark Construction was created to bring that experience directly to clients—providing a dependable contractor who understands both the technical and practical sides of construction. Today, Simmark works across building construction, civil works, property maintenance, and landscaping. We also cater subcontracts to leading Companies like Downer and Clelands Construction.

Simmark Construction was founded through a shared vision between Kay Narayan and Lyle Marks,  working with Jono Murdoch from Ailtire Architects  — to bring together engineering, construction, and design expertise under one unified team.

After many years working across different parts of the construction and engineering industries, we recognised a common challenge in the region: projects often required clients to coordinate multiple contractors, consultants, and trades independently. This can lead to delays, miscommunication, and unnecessary complexity.

By combining engineering expertise, construction leadership, architectural capability, and skilled trades, we formed Simmark Construction with the goal of creating a single umbrella for essential building and civil services in the region.

Lyle Marks – Construction & Civil Specialist

Lyle brings over 40 years of hands-on experience in the construction industry, working across projects ranging from light residential builds to large civil and infrastructure works. His expertise spans civil engineering, building construction, and site delivery, giving Simmark the capability to manage projects from early planning through to completion. Lyle is known for his practical approach, strong work ethic, and ability to manage complex site operations while maintaining quality and safety.

Karthik (Kay) Narayan – Projects and Engineering Management

Karthik is a an Engineer and Project Management Professional with many years of experience in engineering and construction projects on onshore and offshore structural and construction projects with Downer, Dialog, Heb and many other leading contractors in NZ. His background ensures every project is managed with precision and professional insight.

At Simmark, Kay focuses on project cost planning, engineering oversight, client coordination, and project delivery, ensuring projects are executed efficiently, safely, and to high technical standards.

Our Trade Team

Supporting our leadership team is a group of skilled construction workers and our Master Paint Supervisor - Bruce Aldworth who bring practical craftsmanship and attention to detail to every project.

Our tradespeople have extensive experience in:

  • Property maintenance and renovations

  • Landscaping and outdoor construction

  • General building and finishing work
